The Juffinger family’s Neugschwent stud farm is located at an altitude of almost 900 metres above sea level, nestled within the stunning Tyrolean mountain landscape. The farm has been a centre of horse breeding and equestrian passion for generations, and today, more than ever, is the expression of an unwavering commitment – no compromises when it comes to the sport or in the horses’ living environment.
Over 45 years ago the family’s grandfather Hans Trainer laid the foundations for the stud farm with two breeding mares. Since then a number of successful competition horses have been bred here. Today, 25-year-old Dominik Juffinger – himself an internationally successful show jumper – is continuing this story, guided by a clear vision for the future.

“I’ve seen many wonderful stables and knew exactly what I wanted,” he commented. As a teenager he already went to ride at international stables, working in France, Switzerland and the USA. His years abroad have honed his focus. They also forged his resolve, as he realised at an early stage that he wanted to come back one day and when he did, he would create the stables he had always dreamt of.
The construction project was anything but ordinary. The farm is not only situated in challenging terrain, but it is also laid out over two levels with an unusual layout, demanded and shaped by the mountain’s topography.
Dominik Juffinger worked with Röwer & Rüb to carry on evolving a plan originally conceived by his grandfather years ago. Old plans were rethought, ideas refined, and details scrutinised time and again. “We sat together until the early hours, drawing and making plans.” We wanted stables that are light, welcoming and practical. “And this is exactly what we have achieved.”
The project was overseen by Wolfgang Szedenik, who guided the family through the entire process with his experience and expertise. An overall concept gradually took shape that blends in perfectly with the site’s surroundings.
Today the complex is harmoniously spread across the two levels. The stables for the Grand Prix horses are located upstairs. It features powder-coated stall fronts from the Amsterdam range finished with gold-coloured brass knobs and customised stall signs. This area has a calm, light-filled atmosphere and has been designed with a particular focus on high quality and attention to detail. There is one special feature – the window fitted specifically for the Shetland pony ‘Luna’ in one of the stall fronts. The stables for young horses, equipped with 22 Hamburg stalls, are located below. The galvanised components, combined with sliding doors and rotating troughs, ensure that daily routines run smoothly.
The overall look of the stable is rounded off by barn doors, stable doors, windows and tether posts manufactured by Röwer & Rüb, all from a single source. “Everything is really well distributed,” comments Romy Herzig, Dominik Juffinger’s partner and a show jumper in her own right who has competed successfully at the very highest level. “We have our tethering spaces both upstairs and downstairs; everything is laid out logically and works well in day-to-day use.”

What makes this project special is not just its architectural design or the quality of its execution. It’s the feeling behind it.
“When I come home from a tournament on a Sunday evening, I get emotional every single time,” says Dominik Juffinger. “Even as a child I had a vision in my mind. And now it has all become reality. We’ve made our dream come true.”
For Romy Herzig it was the horses’ quality of life that made her so excited about the new stables. “It’s incredibly important to us that the horses feel comfortable,” she adds. “They do so much for us, and we want to give it all back to them.”
With the Neugschwent Stud Farm they have created a place that means that they have achieved their aim. The facility caters to the horses’ needs, makes day-to-day life easier and at the same time creates a welcoming atmosphere. This project demonstrates what is possible when experience, high standards and the right partners come together. And it is also a childhood dream come true that honours the family’s history.
