A New Stallion Barn for Record-Breaking Olympic Champion Isabell Werth

Even back then, we installed the stalls together,” recalls Werth. When a new stallion barn was recently added to her equestrian facility in Rheinberg, the choice once again fell on Röwer & Rüb.

The sliding doors create unobstructed circulation space and make everyday stable routines more efficient. The rotating trough allow horses to be fed safely, particularly when new or more sensitive horses are introduced to the stable. The stalls themselves were designed with generous dimensions. “The stalls are spacious and generously designed. The grille elements between the stallions also allow social contact,” explains Werth. Large stable windows and generously sized barred openings in the stall fronts provide the horses with views of the surrounding countryside as well as the stable aisle.

Stallion Housing to the Highest Modern Standards
Modern stallion management requires a constant focus on horse welfare while also giving careful consideration to safety. For this reason, solid bamboo partitions were installed, providing outstanding stability while remaining impact-resistant and splinter-free. Based on her many years of experience, Werth particularly values the material: “Compressed bamboo timber lasts exceptionally well, is easy to maintain and simply looks good.”
Depending on the temperament of the horses, grille elements can be incorporated to allow neighbouring stallions varying degrees of contact.
The increased height of the stall fronts also creates additional overhead space. With a clearance height of 2.44 metres, the risk of injury is reduced, for example if a horse startles suddenly.
The same attention to detail continues beyond the stalls themselves. The generously designed wash bays provide plenty of room to move. “The horses have ample space. Everything has been designed very generously,” says Werth. The flooring installed in these areas also contributes to safety: “The surface is completely slip-resistant, which is extremely important for safety, and at the same time it is particularly durable.”
