Created for Horses and Big Dreams

Hill Farm

Hill Farm in Buckinghamshire is much more than just a home. It is the personal retreat and professional training base of British show jumper Tess Carmichael. Here, where international sport horses are trained and cared for at the highest level, quality and design go hand in hand.

Tess Carmichael is living her dream. After years in the financial sector, she chose to dedicate her career entirely to equestrian sport and is now a co-owner of the Longines Global Champions Tour team “Shanghai Swans.” With the purchase of Hill Farm, a new chapter began. Today, the property is not only the starting point for her competitions across Europe, but also the place where her vision of modern horse keeping has become reality.

A new stable building, a fresh start

For the construction of her new 18 x 12 metre stable building, Tess Carmichael placed her trust in the expertise of Röwer & Rüb. She had researched extensively, gathered inspiration and visited renowned facilities such as Downs House Racing Stables in Epsom, where Röwer & Rüb had also installed the stabling.

The challenge at Hill Farm was clear: an ageing existing stable on the property needed to be completely replaced. Röwer & Rüb designed and built a full American-style barn from the ground up. Detailed drawings and 3D visualisations supported the decision-making process, and by summer 2023 the entire stable complex was completed.

Light, air, and a sense of security

At its heart are six spacious stalls featuring the Bremen front design. The open fronts invite the horses to observe their surroundings, encouraging attentiveness and interaction. Particularly striking is the harmonious combination of galvanised steel and powder-coated elements, creating a welcoming yet robust atmosphere.

The central aisle is complemented by a generous tack room with mahogany elements designed by SeBo and high-quality impact protection by Groene. A triple wash and grooming area, elegant windows, two sliding doors and a separate entrance door were also manufactured by Röwer & Rüb. The open construction ensures light, airflow and clear structure – an environment in which horses can feel at ease and performance can develop. Ventilation was especially important to Tess Carmichael, ensuring optimal conditions for every horse. Every detail was planned with both equine welfare and daily routines in mind: functional, durable and defined by the clear design language for which Röwer & Rüb is known worldwide.

Horse welfare comes first

“For me, it was important to create a place where my horses enjoy the best possible conditions and where you can feel the passion behind every detail,” says Tess Carmichael about her new home. “The quality and craftsmanship of Röwer & Rüb products speak for themselves. I’m impressed every single day.”

Hill Farm stands as a model for modern showjumping: internationally oriented, deeply rooted in a love for horses, and run with professional dedication. Tess Carmichael’s decision to choose a Röwer & Rüb stable system reflects her high standards – and her understanding that top performance requires an environment that makes it possible.
